Movie Review - The Angry Birds Movie

The Angry Birds Movie

Starring: Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader, Peter Dinklage, Sean Penn, Keegan-Michael Key, Kate McKinnon, and more.
Directed by: Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly Written by: Jon Vitti Music by: Heitor Pereira Art Direction by: Pete Oswald
Premise: An orphan and with unusually large eyebrows, Red has always had a hard time fitting in, all the kids making fun of him because he's different. As an adult, things have not gotten easier, his streaks of bad luck not helping to keep him from getting angry.  Then the pigs arrive. Red tries to tell the village that there's something not right about them, but the smooth talking Leonard has a rebuttal for everything. Do the pigs have an ulterior motive for coming to the island or is Red just being paranoid? (Rated PG)
Review:
1) Acting - Total Thumbs Up: Jason Sudeikis does a great job as the pragmatic and unlucky Red. Josh Gad is a blast as super fast Chuck. Danny McBride did a nice job as the awkward Bomb. Peter Dinklage as the Might Eagle was hoot. :) Bill Hader had way too much fun as Leonard. Maya Rudolph added a lot cute bits as Matilda. Sean Penn doesn't say much, but his character Terence brought some definite fun to the table.
2) Artwork/Animation - Total Thumbs Up: Rovio Animation has taken the beloved little game of Angry Birds and made it into a fun film. The textures are nicely done, giving a different look and feel not only to make our feathered friends look fluffy, but even differentiating between the different feather types on their bodies. Nice work!
Bird Island and Piggy Island each have their own distinct look and feel. They even worked the loosey-goosey building style the pigs use in the different incarnations of the game on the pigs' city.
This loosey-goosey style is also extended to their technology, which makes for a lot of fun. That they haven't blown themselves up before this point is amazing! :P
If you go see it in 3D, they have several cute gags they use the 3D on for good effect. :) And Terence is awesome. Speaking volumes with but a look.
And they could not make the bird kids look any cuter! OMG! If they ever make plushies of the kids, I'm not going to be able to help myself. They are so CUTE!
3) Plot/Story - Thumbs Up: I have to give some definite praise to Jon Vitti for taking the premise of the Angry Birds game and actually building it out into a full plot for a movie. Thankfully animated films are expected to be 'fantasy' so that helped as well. Best not to look behind the curtain - as they say.
Red has anger issues, but he's come by them honestly. Though the island purports to only bring happiness, the adults tends to ignore things they don't like, and so poor Red was made fun of by his classmates for not knowing things and for looking different without anyone intervening on his behalf. Add his streaks of bad luck and I don't blame him for being angry. Several themes revolve around Red and friends - community, social blindness, suppressing feelings, individuality, and several others.
They make sure we know the birds in this universe do not fly - that only the Mighty Eagle can - and most think him but a myth. I found it quite amusing that the pigs are the ones who introduce them the idea of the slingshots. Their hubris was also their undoing.
Some of the characters and who they represent in the Angry Bird game universe are obvious, some less so. Half the fun is watching them do their thing. And the pigs are a riot! lol.
Make sure to stay through part of the credits. Super cute scene with the triplets. :)
Conclusion: The Angry Birds Movie is a must for anyone who has ever enjoyed the Angry bird games. Prepare yourself for large dozes of cuteness, some crude humor, and fun.
Rating: 3.75 out of 5 (Hubby's Rating: Worth Full Price of Admission)

Virtual Tourist - Dishonored and Angry Birds Star Wars 11/17/13

Morning!

Dishonored
Extra Missions 1
A set of timed assassinations with different goals. When you break the glass, everything goes into slow motion. Skulls at the top is the number of skills to pass. Really get to know your weapons and powers for this. Bonus rounds too, but you only get to try those once. Real hard to take pics! Heh. (Timed things like grenades - you get given a top view to watch them go off.

This one is a progression of waves of people to dispatch or they'll dispatch you. Power items will appear for short periods of time for you to try to get. Also a golden guy with potions and ammo. Not easy. Did get rat swarm for the first time - nasty, but effective!

Angry Birds Star Wars
Cloud City

Harder than it looks, this one. Remake of the trash burning area in the film?

Intro of Bobba Fett Pig. If you hit him just right, his jets go wonky and he will fill around until he whacks a wall and goes poof. On a later screen I was stick in, I got to where I could aim him pretty good. lol. Did not get old. :P

Chained Bobba Fett Pig. Had some fun on this screen too. Heh heh.

And there he sits - all piggy and all on my character wall. Hee!

Have a great Sunday!

Virtual Tourist - Angry Bird Star Wars and Dishonored 1/6/13

Greetings all!
Head cold is slowly improving, though the 12 hour days at work are not helping. Did detox Thursday before going to bed, so I have pics! :)

Angry Birds Star Wars
Hoth

Hoth is the next series of puzzles. Some nice intro pics for the new set.

Pink for Leia...really? Really? (Her weird moan is err annoying too. Wah!)

She has a tractor beam like power. Weird to use but can have a devastating when used correctly.

Love the spy driods! And look at their snow helmets. So cute!

Yes, there are At-At. They shoot but don't walk. However, you can get them to collapse!

3rd Bonus Puzzle with exploding 3CPO. Heh

Opened up a few more characters on the sheet. :)

Dishonored

View from up high inside Campbell's building. Those giant lamps are perfect for going down the hallway unseen.

Campbell's hidden love nest and treasure storage. 1st time I had a heck of a time finding it. (There's a magic bone piece in here, so I could see it with the Heart but not get at it. They really make you work for some of these!) :P

Making my way through the kennels. Those dogs are mean!

Had to take a pic of the spiderweb up there. So delicate and it swayed softly in the breeze too. Such a neat little touch.

Full front view of Campbell's building.

This little backpack gadget is an anti-magic device. Seemingly the researcher is using music waves to cancel out magic energy. I turned it on and got really woozy. So it looks like the guy is onto something. Eek!

Overhear view of the area close to the docks. Some of the skylights are breakable, so I've been sneaking into buildings all over the place. Bwahahaha!

The rain is mucking up the pic a bit, but it was such a nice view of the moon and the night's sky.

A really weird looking whaler ship. The poor whale is saddled up on top. I believe one of the documents I read during my journeys mentioned that they keep them alive even while they skin the poor things.

Looks like that's all the damage I will be causing today. Hope you're having a great weekend!

Virtual Tourist - Angry Birds Star Wars and Star Wars The Old Republic 12/9/12

Good morning! Felt like Doom and Gloom yesterday. Doing a little better today. Sad I had to skip a friend's party for the second year in a row. Waaaahhhhh!

Angry Birds
Deathstar - bwahahahaha

One slide movie showing us being pulled into the Deathstar.

Chewie!!!!

Lasers, floatie things, Imperial Pigs!

This Han Solo screen was insane. Needed to ricochet laser shots off the metal sheets. What's mean is that the sheets take damage each time.

Chewie!!!! lol. This one had Chewie, Lightsaber Luke, and the X-wing pilots. It was hard! (There's like 3 more columns of blocks you can't see.

Another toughie puzzle. Had to use Obiwan to use the force to hit the blocks to rain them on the floaters.

Squee! Darth Pig in the house! All the red lines stuff is stuff he's keeping aloft with the force. And you can't hit him directly. By getting the small platform beneath his copilots, then he'd take sufficient damage to poof away. The moment he's gone, his force hold disappears and all the stuff falls. NOt as easy as it sounds either. lol

Movie shot!

Star Wars The Old Republic
Voss

Why yes, I am easily distracted by cool looking walls. Why do you ask? :P

Yeah, not the kind of place to be hanging around at. Eek!

Shrine charging up a weird Sith cube.

Say Hello to my little (dead) friend. 4 eyes and lots of sharp, sharp teeth! These seem to be like rabbits on earth, spread all over the galaxy but deadly rather than cute.

Roots!

This apparatus looks very similar to the one being admired by my Imperial Spy. Hmmm.

A very funky shrine.

As you'll notice in several pics, my companion NPC started trying to hog the camera!

Dead things that don't fall down make great pic opportunities! Hee!

Cave with the source of the corruption taking over people on Voss.

Now hubby is being a camera hog. Hmm, I am noticing a trend here. :P

Sith companion responsible for a lot of trouble around here.

One of several shrines in the cave system.

Love these doors!

The three Mystics of Voss.

Have a great Sunday, ya'll!
